Music at Twain

Hello my name is Miss Melisa Rutkelis and I am pleased to teach music to students at Twain. If you have questions please email me anytime at mrutkelis@cps.edu

The students in classroom general K-5 music:

K-2 students learn about rhythm, steady beat, singing, and play classroom instruments

3rd grade students are beginning classroom mariachi music, while learning to read music in every music class. If a student has their own guitar, they may bring it to school on their music day. ALL STUDENTS IN 3rd GRADE SHOULD HAVE A GUITAR PICK FOR EACH MUSIC CLASS (write their name/room or initials on their pick in sharpie marker)

4th grade students are strengthening their music reading skills by playing classroom instruments while reading music each class. 257 MUST BRING THEIR MUSIC AND INSTRUMENT TO CLASS EVERY THURSDAY. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CALL HOME, THEY WILL BE GIVEN AN ALTERNATE ASSIGNMENT AND LOSE POINTS FOR THE DAY.

5TH grade students are learning the modern band instruments in each class. By using Little Kids Rock curriculum materials and instruments, the students play popular songs and choose instruments they enjoy playing each class period when demonstrating good behavior. If a student has their own guitar, they may bring it to school on their music day. ALL STUDENTS IN 5th GRADE SHOULD HAVE A GUITAR PICK FOR EACH MUSIC CLASS (write their name/room or initials on their pick in sharpie marker)
